Cornucopia and Thankfulness 2010!!!

Cornucopia - The Horn of Plenty

The cornucopia is a time-honored symbol of abundance, long associated with Thanksgiving. However, it was symbolic well before this holiday existed. The word 'cornucopia' actually dates back to the 5th century BC. It derives from two Latin words: "cornu," meaning horn (as in the name of that one-horned creature, the "unicorn") and "copia," meaning plenty (a relative of such words as "copious" and "copy"). Thus, "cornucopia" literally means horn of plenty, and the names are used interchangeably. It was usually depicted as a curved goat's horn, filled to overflowing with fruit and grain, but could actually have been filled with whatever the owner wished. This info. I found at http://www.flowershopnetwork.com/pages/newsletter/NewsletterOctober2005.php.
There is more information at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornucopia.

I was very curious about this symbol of Thanksgiving. It is amazing to me that the Cornucopia has been around since at least the 5th century. When thinking about the Horn of Plenty I feel that my life has been filled like a Horn of Plenty with many abundances to be thankful for. I've had and have lots of LOVE, FAMILY and FRIENDS for which I am truly grateful. I've had and still have diverse learning experiences that shape who I am. I have witnessed and continue to see the beauties of nature and appreciate them immensely. Earth is an incredible planet and I love living on it. I appreciate God.
I hope each of you have a safe and fabulously memorable Thanksgiving.

Voted Today!!!

It felt so good to vote after work today. As I was looking at my Facebook pages after voting I read a post written by my good friend who is from the Philippines. She wrote "Years ago, back in my country, before day breaks on election day, somebody from nowhere or even someone you knew, would knock on your door and offer you money to vote for their candidate/s. Whether you're endowed or not (and mostly aren't) with leadership skills, as long as you can afford to buy votes - most likely you'll win. Sad, isn't it?"
After reading this I was even more grateful to live in the USA.

Me and Mother Nature at work!!!

As I was taking my walk today, October 16, 2010, the beautiful fall leaves that were laying on the ground were speaking to me so I picked some of them up and made a fall tree. I like how it turned out.

A Gorgeous Labor Day, Sept. 6, 2010

High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor even eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

How exciting it must be to fly high in the sky. On this late summer day it is awesome to see the tree-framed blue sky with puffy white clouds. I love our Earth.

Retro Skating Party!!!

It was so fun
learning what the
Retro Style is.

On Sunday September 5, 2010

I went roller skating at Winnwood Skating rink at my good friend and coworker Heather G's happy 40th birthday bash. I enjoyed meeting her parents. Heather selected some very groovy music to skate to. We skated on a brand new wood floor. It was pretty slick. I managed not to fall. I think everyone who attended had a great time. Thank you to Heather and her mom and dad.

The Prom!!

June 12 2010 Jess and I were invited to
Prom by good friends Tom and Sylvia.
We had a very super evening. It was so
exiting to get dressed up. The music,
lighting and general atmosphere were
great. People there were serious dancers,
those just learning to dance and
practicing their moves on the
dance floor
and Jess and I who were just experienc-
ing this dance venue for the first time.
They have this dance under different themes the 2nd Sat. of most months. Last nights theme was "The Prom". It Was held at the Truman Memorial Bldg. Independence MO. We are looking forward to next months dance. Thank you Sylvia and Tom.

An Amazing Cloud!!

When Jess, James and I were on our way home to NKC from Lawrence, KS on June 5th we saw this awesome cloud. It was interesting how the front underneath part of this cloud looked more and more windswept as time past. The cloud formation was moving as fast or faster than we were.

Christmas Day

It has been over 3 months since Christmas I know. It was a rough weather winter. I don't function too well when the weather is cold, gloomy, just plain nasty or all of the previously mentioned. But I do want to Blog about our Christmas. I was quiet. We celebrated with our dear friend and neighbor Ariela. I hope all of you had a very nice holiday.
