Threat of Severe Weather May 25, 2011!!!

A very good photo of how our sky looked on Wednesday.

After hearing the news stories of the strong tornado (later categorized as an F-5) hitting Joplin, Mo on Sunday May 22, my systems were on high alert as were many other peoples. Then on Wednesday May 25 at about 11:45 A.M. over the intercom came the instruction to go to our safe place. I and 3 of my co-workers took our 6 students from the school's cafe to the boy's restroom adjoining the cafe. We were in there with one of the 1st grade classes and 3 of the lunchroom staff. It is a larger bathroom with high ceilings which made the hour or so stay in it more bearable. As we were in the bathroom we could faintly hear the neighborhood sirens going off. One of the lunchroom ladies handed us some bottled water. Some people in the bathroom felt hot but I felt just right temperature wise. Then finally we were given the "all clear" to return to our rooms. I feel that the students and staff did very well during this ordeal. We are all very thankful that everyone was okay. A few small tornadoes touched down in the region but none came down close to us. Hopefully tornado season will be over soon. My heart goes out to the people of Reading, KS, Joplin and Sedala, MO, Oklahoma City, OK area. I'm thankful to all those who are helping in some way.

Jess spent some time in our basement when the sirens went off. James stayed in his room. We are all safe and sound.
